Why Genesis as allegory doesn't work

When dismissing Christianity on the basis of evolution, I do this because the origin myth of the Bible is central to the key message of Christ’s role in redemption. If there was no original sin in the Garden of Eden then human beings are not all born with an innate sin nature and there is no need for a saviour. When interpreting Genesis as allegory, the Bible falls apart, because if the original sin is viewed allegorically, then Christ died for a sin that never occurred, to restore man to a state of grace that he never fell from. His death would be in vain. The allegorical view of Genesis is inconsistent with the New Testament. However if viewing Genesis literally, we see that all available evidence contradicts the Biblical account of creation.

Religious Psychological Manipulation

The state of being controlled by guilt and fear by something for which there is absolutely no evidence and against which all available evidence points.

The opposing argument is that without faith it is impossible to please God, so in order to experience him we must put aside all of our critical investigation skills and believe that he exists, even when all evidence we do have leads us to a universe that came into being entirely through natural causes.

This unfounded belief leads directly to the point where I started, wherein escape from irrationality is extremely hard, since we have accepted something without evidence and dismissed critical evidence based thinking.

The very act of faith causes us to give up our ability to reason, and when we no longer agree it is difficult to break free because we are now bound by a fear that, had reason and evidence prevailed, should not have been accepted as valid in the first place.
